A Pirate's Life Training Simulator:
Normcore Multiplayer Demo

This multiplayer scene was built in a team of 4 VR developers/designers. We created a training simulator for a steampunk pirate ship. 

My responsibilities were:

  • Supported concepting and storyboarding of the scene
  • Implemented specific scene interactions (opening and closing drawers, interacting with the parrot)
  • Supported multiplayer implementation and debugging

Notes on design:

This is a Normcore multiplayer enabled virtual environment where a new recruit learns to run the ship under the guidance of a senior officer. Syncing custom components and version control via GitHub presented the majority of troubleshooting issues. A simulator is an example of a potential training solution for companies looking to virtually orient new employees in the basic tasks at their job. 

I truly enjoyed the creative process of world creation in a team. We took this scene from concept to storyboard, and then from storyboard to a feature complete VR scene. Leaning into the designer’s vision for the scene was fun and each teammate brought a unique sensibility that gave the scene its character. Constant testing is a must to ensure everything is rendered and the interactions are functioning properly.
