Design Office World
My virtual design workspace was made to enable virtual collaboration and project planning in a personalized space. As the solo designer/developer for this virtual workspace, my role was:
- World and interaction designer
- Asset designer
- Testing, debugging
- Optimization across platforms (PC, mobile, VR headset)
Notes on Design:
The design challenge was to build a world around tools and interactions aimed at creative collaboration. It was necessary to select for the built-in features that most supported my personal workflow and conceptualize a space around them.
Design considerations around lighting, documentation of information, and ease of locomotion were all accounted for when building this world. The result is a space where I can easily visualize the relationships between ideas and quickly organize thoughts and workflows. It’s also a place where I can invite friends and collaborators to work with me.
This world features all original assets and particle systems, integrated with Spatial.io’s built-in interaction components. It’s a good example of how VR can create spaces for practical use that could never exist in the real world. It’s hard for the average creator to imagine funding the construction of a physical office this large, with custom aesthetics and immersive design tools. But in VR this is not only possible, it’s perfectly practical as a workspace.
